After 25 years, the first and foremost passion remains patient care.
In February 1985, the clinic “Rupa K. Shah, MD, PC”, a pediatric primary care clinic, was founded in Milwaukie, Oregon. At that time, the staff consisted of Dr. Rupa Shah and one other employee to handle front and back office duties. On her first day in practice Dr. Shah was delighted to provide care to 18 patients.
The quality of care and compassion provided by Dr. Shah and her expanded staff resulted in a flourishing practice. By the early 1990’s it had grown to a point that Dr. Shah realized she could use some help. She also wanted to ease the ever increasing burden on busy parents by being more conveniently located to her growing patient population. So, in 1995 she welcomed Bassam G. Hadeed, MD to her practice. She also opened a small secondary location in Clackamas and began doing business as “Clackamas Pediatric Clinic”.
Together Dr.’s Shah and Hadeed expanded the services offered at the Clackamas locations and went on to open Oregon Pediatrics – NE Portland in August 1999 and Oregon Pediatrics – Meridian Park in September 2004. At the encouragement of many of her patient’s families, Dr. Shah closed her Milwaukie office in order to practice full-time at the growing Clackamas location. The opening of Oregon Pediatrics – Happy Valley in April 2010 has been Dr. Shah’s most recent clinic addition.
Experienced, Diverse Practitioners
As the number of locations increased, so did the need for practitioners. That need has been met over the years by the addition of several pediatric primary care practitioners and one pediatric psychologist, all of which have come to the practice with outstanding recommendations, skills and dedication to childhood health and wellness. They represent a great diversity in backgrounds and style of practice. This diversity allows patients and families to find a practitioner that best fits the qualities they are looking for in a pediatrician.
Serving in Four Locations
Today the group, generally known as “Oregon Pediatrics”, has grown to consist of the Clackamas, N.E. Portland, Happy Valley, and Meridian Park locations; fourteen practitioners and approximately forty support staff. Collectively the group actively participates in measures to improve pediatrics patient care and outcomes both locally, at the state level and nationally. These measures include topics such as childhood asthma and childhood immunizations. The implementation of E.M.R. (Electronic Medical Records) in November 2008 has helped track and monitor these and other important patient care concerns.
Passion Remains Unchanged
Dr. Shah continues to see patients daily in addition to serving as Medical Director and Administrator for the entire group. And while that means very busy days, her first and foremost passion remains patient care. “Oh, I love it!” she says whenever someone suggests she slow down a bit, after more than 25 years.
