Katy has always been drawn to medicine and loves kids. During high school she decided this was the career path for her. Born in Hong Kong but immigrating to the United States at the age of 5, Katy feels like a native Oregonian.
Katy earned her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Willamette University in Salem, OR. After leaving school, she worked a myriad of positions including a research assistant at Oregon Health & Science University, a certified nursing assistant in an Alzheimer’s long-term care facility, and a volunteer at Providence Portland Medical Center in cardiology. It was these experiences that led her to pursue a degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Arcadia University in Newark, Delaware, and Glenside, Pennsylvania. As part of her training, she also spent a month in Guatemala at the regional hospital in Zacapa. Katy joined Oregon Pediatrics in 2009.
Katy finds satisfaction in knowing that she is a part of their lives, helping them become happy and healthy individuals. It is important to her to be able to spend time explaining a diagnosis and helping the parents make an informed decision about the care of their child.
Although a self-proclaimed workaholic, Katy also enjoys traveling, tennis, reading, eating out, and spending time with family and friends. She speaks fluent Cantonese and enjoys learning new languages.
Watching children grow up and enter different stages of life is very exciting and the reason why pediatrics is extremely rewarding to me.”
