Expecting a new baby? If so, CONGRATULATIONS!
Children are a precious gift; each is special and unique. And whether this is your first child or not, we can help you give your baby the healthy start she/he deserves.
If this is your first baby or you are new to our practice, call any of our offices to schedule a free prenatal or “meet the doctor” visit with one of our providers. If you’ve been referred to us by a friend or another physician, this free visit is a great opportunity for you and your spouse or partner to meet the provider, ask questions and learn more about our practice.
The Hospital Visit
Inform your obstetrician and the hospital that you would like one of our physicians to be your baby’s pediatrician. Most of our providers see patients at the following hospitals:
- Legacy Emanuel and Meridian Park Hospitals
- Providence Portland, Milwaukie and Willamette Falls Hospitals
- Adventist Medical Center
When your baby is born, we’ll be contacted and one of our physicians will come to the hospital to thoroughly examine your baby and discuss any questions you have. If you wish to have your son circumcised by one of our physicians let us know. We will perform the circumcision in the office shortly after your son is discharged from the hospital.
If you deliver your baby at a hospital other than those listed above, a hospital staff pediatrician will examine your baby in the hospital. When you call for your baby’s first office visit, inform the scheduler where your child was delivered so we may schedule plenty of time to thoroughly examine your baby and answer any questions you might have.
The First Office Visit
Unless we advise you otherwise, we usually like to see your baby for the first office visit when she/he is about 2-3 days old. Contact our offices as soon as possible to schedule this first visit.
How We Can Help
Baby’s Health Insurance
It is important to contact your health insurance carrier as soon as possible after baby’s birth, and to advise them that you’ve chosen one of our providers as baby’s primary care provider (PCP), if one is required. We accept, and are network providers, for most commercial insurance plans as well as Oregon Medicaid.
Regardless of your particular insurance plan it is important that you understand your benefits. Thanks to recent healthcare reform laws, most health plans are required to provide 100% coverage for routine wellness care visits and immunizations.
The State of Oregon and private health insurance companies offer several options for insuring and vaccinating children. Please explore these links to learn more. Representatives in our Patient Accounts Department are also available to help. Call (503) 427-2118 M-Th, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm or Fri, 8:30 am – Noon.
