Sick Child Visit

When your child is sick, we do our best to get your child in on the same day. Our focus will be the particular “acute” problem, such as earache, sore throat, fever or vomiting and diarrhea. We will try to schedule with your primary provider, however when she/he is not available one of our other providers will be offered. Each provider’s schedule is designed to accommodate a certain number of these same day appointment openings, depending on the anticipated need. It’s best to call early in the morning if you want to reserve one of these same day appointments.

Infectious Disease

An infectious disease is any illness that can be passed from person to person. It’s the top reason parents bring their children to see us; either to help them feel better when they are sick or to immunize them against disease when they are well. Read more about what kind of illness you’re dealing with and when you should bring your child in to be seen in clinic for possible treatment. Read more about Infectious Disease >

Chronic Illness

If your child has a complex problem or one that has been going on for quite some time, she/he may need an extended visit. These types of visits are not usually available on a same day basis. However, if your child is acutely ill, even if it is chronic, we will see your child to address the acute symptoms on the same day you call. Extended follow-up care will usually be necessary. Examples of chronic illnesses requiring extended visits are:

  • Allergies or asthma
  • Behavioral problems
  • Chronic abdominal pain or stomachaches
  • Chronic back or joint pain
  • Chronic headaches
  • Lactation problems
  • Nutritional concerns (e.g., overweight, picky eater, eating disorders)
  • School problems
  • Any other chronic or complicated conditions

Walk-Ins

Oregon Pediatrics is not a walk-in clinic and therefore we ask that you call in advance whenever your child needs care. On the rare occasion that it is not possible to call ahead, we do our best to accommodate. For acute problems it may be necessary to wait while the provider sees scheduled patients so that we may honor their appointment time. Insurance confirmation and collection of copay, if applicable, will apply. For chronic or non-urgent problems you may be offered an appointment on a different day. To expedite your visit, we recommend you call in advance whenever possible.

Siblings

Please understand that requests to examine one or more unscheduled sibling(s) will be accommodated in the same manner as a walk-in patient. To expedite your visit, we recommend you call in advance whenever you want to add on an unscheduled sibling.

Emergencies

See us, during office hours, if your child has an urgent or emergent problem such as trouble breathing or a laceration. Whenever possible please call first so we can prepare for your arrival. Your child’s urgent medical need will be addressed by any one or more of our available providers and expedited to match the nature of the emergency.

After Hours

If you call after our normal office hours our answering service can put you in touch with our on-call provider or our after hour’s Triage Nurse. Our after hour’s service is designed to help with urgent medical needs that cannot or should not wait until our office re-opens. For example if your child is ill or injured and you need help deciding if an emergency room visit is advisable, please don’t hesitate to contact us after hours. If you have questions about a bill or need vaccine records, please call us during regular office hours.

Call (503) 238-8358 to speak to our answering service after hours. During office hours, please call our office.
